4 SECOND-HAND OUTDOOR FURNITURE SETS, FOR UNDER $1,300

Here are four wonderful room sets, curated by a slightly eccentric woman with a Carousell addiction and a Canva account. Recently, I have been spending much of my days fantasy shopping for second-hand/vintage/antique furniture for my own condo, completely procrastinating any life admin and ignoring the seemingly endless pile of dishes in the sink... During this procrastination, I've worked up 4 little outdoor sanctuaries with purely second-hand items, realizing how affordable it can be if someone has the time to do all the sourcing! While I appreciate $1,300 is still a decent amount of money, even if you are solely browsing IKEA or praying for a sale at Castlery. I, personally, don't think you will find balcony sets for much less anywhere else in Singapore, and they certainly won't have half as much personality!

A well-placed teak bench or a beautiful plant thriving in this tropical climate can instantly transform and add romance to a tiny condo balcony. Your current ordinary outdoor sofa will suddenly be lifted into a new realm — a realm that says: I enjoy iced coffee at golden hour. I own linen napkins. I have thoughtfully designed this space; I have not simply panic-bought the first outdoor set labeled ‘space-saving’ online.

Why buy second-hand? Well, there are countless reasons in my opinion! The top 5 being ...

1. Cost - I have encountered some stunningly beautiful furniture that is eye-wateringly expensive and beyond my budget, and I suspect some of you may feel the same. I do believe quality furniture deserves to be expensive, due to the effort, skill, and craft involved in making it. Nevertheless, I can't afford them at present, which I find can be a bit discouraging.

2. You're buying direct from independent sellers, with excellent taste! Support local!

3. Many of these pieces have already survived years in this humid climate and should survive many more.

4. No lead time, no waiting, in your home as soon as you can arrange collection!

5. It's much better for the environment! Today, sustainability is a priority for many, and buying second-hand items, such as furniture or clothing, is a great way to lower our carbon footprint.

Bonus: They also make your balcony look absurdly elegant.
